Susan L. Griffin
“Designer Of Cold-Porcelain Floral Art For Those Who Appreciate Originals”
Cold porcelain originated in Argentina and has quickly gained popularity worldwide because of its durability, beauty and qualities that allow artisans to create life like decorations. Cold porcelain has replaced “gumpaste” or "sugar flowers” as the decoration of choice for today’s consumer. Cold porcelain originals will last for years so you can display them long after your special event. Flowers made from cold porcelain take on a luminous glow which gives them a very realistic and life-like quality. People are often tempted to touch them to see if they are “real”
Cold porcelain is considered a DECORATIVE MEDIUM and it is NOT RECOMMENDED that it be in direct contact with food. The medium is NON-TOXIC but considered to be non-edible. Susan uses only food-safe dyes in her palette of colors. She recommends that you display your originals on cake forms cut from Styrofoam and covered in rolled fondant or royal icing. If you choose to use cold porcelain ornaments on an edible cake you must first place them on a food-safe disc so that they do not come into direct contact with anything that may be eaten. She specializes in "display cakes" believing you will find her designs " too pretty to eat and her cakes too nice to slice."
